A Message on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

March 17th, 2020

Thank you for your support of IMAX Victoria.

Today marks the day that we need to temporarily close the theatre. Effective 5 PM today, March 17th, IMAX Victoria will be closed to the public. Our last show will be at 4PM. We will open again as soon as possible, but at this time the re-opening date is pending the direction of health authorities. We will be sure to communicate with you as we proceed.

The Royal BC Museum will also be closing at 5PM today. More information on their announcement can be found HERE.

As a company, we will be supporting our staff financially for as long as possible to mitigate the financial strain as best we can and ensure familiar faces are smiling upon our return.

Message for Current Ticketholders:

For those who currently hold tickets for any shows scheduled for 5PM March 17th onwards, we are working our way through issuing refunds for any paid admissions. There is no need to reach out to us if you hold tickets for a film unless you paid cash or debit at the Box Office for your tickets. In this case, please send us an email to events@imaxvictoria.com.

To our 2020 Annual Passholders:

We know how much you care about this theatre and we will do our best to protect it and have it ready for your return. We are also working on some fun digital content to keep everyone entertained, so stay tuned to your email to get more details on that!

While we are closed to the public, you are still welcome to reach out to us by phone or email if we can be of service in any way. We will be here. You can find staff contact information HERE> (link to https://imaxvictoria.com/contact-us/)

Thank you for your understanding and stay safe!

IMAX® Victoria is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our guests and staff. We are dedicated to monitoring and understanding the facts so that we can respond appropriately and in a timely manner.

As the situation evolves in Victoria, British Columbia and across the nation, so will our approach to keeping people safe. Our goal is to follow the direction of BC Health authorities while maintaining our ability to keep our team employed and services open for those in need of respite and entertainment.

Today we are implementing drastic measures, on top of the increased sanitization practised already implemented. While our doors remain open for the time being, please review the following guidelines prior to visiting:

  • Seating capacity has been reduced leaving 6 empty seats for every one occupied seat.

  • If you choose to come see a film, please follow the directions of the Usher by ensuring at least 3 empty seats between your party and your neighbour, to ensure social distancing practises are followed.

  • Show times may be delayed as the staff take extra sanitary precautions in between shows, including disinfecting the arm rests for each occupied seat in the theatre.

  • Please stay at home if you have been travelling recently, are feeling under the weather, or have a compromised immune system in any way.

If you already hold tickets for a show and are uncomfortable attending, please reach out to us at events@imaxvictoria.com for an exchange or refund.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding in this difficult time as we all navigate the best course of action.

Released March 13th, 2020

IMAX® Victoria is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our guests and staff. We are dedicated to monitoring and understanding the facts so that we can respond appropriately and in a timely manner.

We are currently fully operational with all show times and films moving forward as scheduled. We have made adjustments to our practises in several notable ways under the recommendations made by Provincial Health organizations.

Firstly, in response to the BC Health Minister’s request to cancel gatherings of 250 or more, we have adjusted our seating capacity to 249, giving guests more room to practise social distancing. Secondly, we have made changes to our already thorough cleaning practices, including increasing the frequency that we sanitize touchpoints in the building. As a reminder, our 3D glasses are commercially cleaned to regulated industry sanitization standards prior to every use.

Our partners at the Royal BC Museum have also implemented enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures. You can read more about their measures HERE.

At this time, we have no cancellations of programming.

We do ask for your help in keeping risk low in our community by following the World Health Organizations recommendations for hygiene practices when you visit the theatre:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw the tissue away immediately and wash hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough.

We request that anyone who has concerns that they may be been in contact with someone displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or respiratory illness, or is displaying symptoms themselves, refrain from visiting us at this time and contact your primary health provider or call 8-1-1. The Public Health Agency of Canada has set up a 2019 novel coronavirus telephone information line at: 1-833-784-4397.

IMAX® Victoria will continue to monitor the recommendations of Canadian health authorities and we will keep you informed of any further operation changes.

Thank you for taking the time to review this information. If you have any questions for the theatre directly, please reach out to us at events@imaxvictoria.com or 250-480-4887.
